I've got a 12% off coupon for Best Buy. It's on sale for $299.99 - so that brings my price to $263.99. They have a deal that if you buy the Matrix trilogy for $79.99 you get any two free HD DVD movies of your choice instantly from their stock. Unfortunately I don't want the Matrix trilogy so I'll pass on that. I think the 5 free movies deal is a Toshiba mail-in promotion so I'll qualify for that as well.
I've been on the fence waiting for the second generation players and better prices. This format war could go on for a couple years. At $264, I'm willing to take the risk. If Sony introduces a cheap Bluray player later this summer I may consider that as well. Then I'll be able to play both formats on better separate players for less than the price of a $1000 universal that does neither format well. At under $300, life is too short to wait for a format "winner".
