The reason there are that many HDTVs in the US doesn't really have to do with HD, its because of size. You can no longer get a 50" or larger TV that isn't HD. With 50" plasmas selling for about $2K, people are scarfing them up. That doesn't mean they want HD, it just means they want a bigger TV. As the article points out, most don't bother to get HD sources, and they are still happy. Some think they are automatically getting HD with the new TV. Is it any wonder why HD discs aren't being accepted by the masses?
