"Needs" may be the wrong word. If after Oct Blu is going to need additional hardware for P/P, what are the odds Sony will do them for free? Can the 300 be upgraded? And if it is a hardware upgrade, OBVIOUSLY it can not be done by connecting the player to the net for download (Sony have eth port??) or upgrade disc.
