In theory TrueHD decodes to PCM so there should be no difference because TrueHd is "theoretically" a lossless compression algorithm. In practice, there are those who have claimed to hear a difference. If there is a difference and the theory is correct, then something got botched in the implementation; either at the encoding or decoding end. I've personally not tried to A/B the two.
That's correct, optical will not support 6 channel uncompressed PCM. If it could, we wouldn't be worried about 5 channel analog bypass for DVD-A in years past. Heck, there are those who think 6 channel uncompressed PCM isn't all that well supported over HDMI because of "jitter" issues.
