(1) Toshiba has had the total sales edge since the beginning of the year in terms of Year to Date (YTD) sales.
(2) The past 12 weeks Blu-ray standalones have outsold HD DVD Standalones cutting substantially into the HD DVD YTD sales edge reducing it from 70% to 56%. If that trend continued to the end of the year, Blu-Ray standalones will have outsold HD DVD for the entire year.
A lot of the Blu-ray standalone sales were because of Sony's introduction of a lower priced Blu-ray player and it occurred before the Paramount decision. It'll be interesting to see how the Paramount defection has effected the hardware sales numbers. It will also be interesting to see how the new Blu-Ray and HD DVD players will affect the hardware sales trends.
