When I hooked up my plasma set to my Dishnetwork receiver with an HDMI connection, the picture looked so spectacular I never bothered to even try component cables, even though I have a high quality set of them. On my set each input has its own set of adjustments for picture quality- color balance, contrast, saturation, etc.- that are remembered for that input. So my question: could the washed out colors with the HDMI input simply have some from different settings for that input? You didn't notice any resolution difference, which I don't find that surprising, but I could easily imaging colors being different. I have different settings for my over-the-air broadcast input from those for the satellite. Maybe I should try component input, though it's hard for me to imagine things getting even better. I looked at dozens of sets in many stores, and I only a few with better pictures, and I knew why in those cases. They were better sets and cost a lot more.
