Ridgefield Park (NJ) - Samsung has removed the BD-P2400 Blu-ray Disc player from its holiday lineup in order to work more devotedly on its first Blu-ray/HD DVD combo player.
Samsung announced today that it has pushed back the BD-P2400, which had been originally scheduled for release this month, back to January 2008.
Its holiday lineup will still include the BD-P1400. Samsung says after assessing "product lineup and after discussions with our channel partners, [we] decided to focus on the BD-P1400 and the BD-UP5000 to make next-generation offerings more efficient."
The BD-UP5000 will be Samsung's first combo player, capable of playing back Blu-ray and HD DVD movies. It will be available by mid-December, according to Samsung.
It will also be capable of playing BD Profile 1.1 discs, which will become the new standard of next-gen Blu-ray features early next year.
