HD DVD players are already cheaper than blu-ray. That's "one" for HD DVD, since price is a major impediment to widespread adoption. No, I'm not a HD DVD fanboy; just making an observation that has been mentioned in this forum before.
Now we all know that HD DVD uses basically the existing DVD manufacturing process, and is therefore less expensive to manufacture per disc than blu-ray. All other things being equal (and they never are), if HD DVD was to pass this cost savings on to consumer, HD DVD would gain traction on the hi-def format war. That would be another "one" for HD DVD camp.
To sum up: less expensive HD DVD players PLUS less expensive HD DVD discs would speed the adoption. Of course, it won't happen. He he.
