MSB Technologies (www.msbtech.com) will install the DTS
chip in the DDP-1 for you. The DDP-1 will be able to apply all the parameter controls (ie; dynamic range compr,center
delay,surround delays,level adj,etc.) to the dts signal after
the modification just as with Dolby Digital. The only
modification needed is to the DDP-1 processor, nothing to
modify on the RX-V2090.A few things to consider:
1) the cost of this mod is still $695,I thought MSB would
have come down on this price by now.
2) The Technics SH-AC500 Dolby Digital/DTS decoder lists
for $300,and is on sale online for prices from $185 to
$269. Many people are using this decoder right now with the Yamaha RX-V2090 and other DD ready receivers. It has
gotten nothing but good reviews. That price is a big savings over the msb mod.
3) If msb puts the chip in for you, you still only have
2 digital inputs and 1 AC-3 RF input. I believe they want
an additional $300-$400 to add 3 more digital inputs. Or
one could purchase their Digital Director with many inputs
and auto sensing (still $385).
Lots to consider, especially in light of the fact the future of dts dvds is still up in the air pretty much.It
seems to me purchasing the Technics is the way to go.
