I can't comment on the S-7700 although I've heard the earlier Sony units. IMO the Denon is the clear leader for music reproduction. I've demoed the Denon and Pioneer units with my system and I felt that the Denon had a cleaner, broader, and more refined sound than the Pioneer (and I ended up buying the Denon). The Denon has a number of nice features as well including multiple digital and analogue outs that are active at the same time as well as easy ergonomics and a nice remote (backlit). Highly recommended. Reviews from mags that I've seen will, however, give a slight edge to the Pioneer for home theater (picture is slightly sharper according to SGHT). Given my exposure to the older Sony unit, I would conclude that the Denon and Pioneer are in a separate (higher) category for music reproduction.
