The Mirage speakers are cetainly quite good. Having sold them for about
a year I can tell you that people cetainly enjoy the OM's. For the Money
the OM 10's and 12 offer wonderful A/V performance. On a musical basis
they are just a bit soft for my taste. The omnidirectionality(they call it
something slightly different which I have forgotten) is handled more effectively than most other types other than Martin-Logans or Magneplanars.
In other words they are quite well focused and offer suprisingly good imaging at the price point. I find The Snell E.5 to be possibly the most
balanced musical speaker under $2000.(At least from a manufacturer that is.) They just happen to be $1400. I like them better than any Thiel or Martin Logan under 3000. The Mirage OM-6 is a bit better generally but not
quite as clear and articulate. They are slightly more open than the E.5's The omnipolar(there is the word)design is quite remarkable but lacks the level of detail and definition the Snell provides. The Snell also plays up to 115-116db levels comfortably.(The Mirages particullary the OM-6 can comfortably due 110-112db) The Snell Center channel C.5 has the same
qualities for 500.00. In moderate theater systems with an audiophile emphasis the E.5 or the Martin-Logans are my first choice in a name brand speaker.
The E.5's are 90db sensitive and have excellent response down to just below 30 Hz. and while not omnipolar they due have a switchable rear firing
tweeter which can be engaged to increase the apparent sense of soundstaging.
They also have a boundary compensation switch to properly shelve below
500Hz response for close boundary placement. This eliminates the nasal honk
and coloration as well as boominess that can often occur when speakers are
located near a wall or corner.
