You are better off with a glass beaded gray screen such as the GrayWolf II, which has a gain of 1.8. This will give you both a brighter picture and better contrast than that matte white screen you are looking at. Matte white screens are usually used for business presentations in well-lit rooms with projectors that can put out 2000 or 3000 lumens. There's a good reason why every actor wants to be seen on the "silver screen".Problem is, you might have trouble finding a gray glass beaded pull up screen in the correct size and aspect ratio. I'm still not sure what your wife's objection to a ceiling mounted pull down screen is. I'll put aside the observation that a basement is usually regarded as "man space" by most married couples since I don't know your personal situation. But it's not as if you're trying to install a movie screen in your living room. It's a basement for chrissake! A pull down screen is not all that obtrusive, weighs only 30lbs and can be hung with two relatively small hooks. You could either conceal the screen behind a valance or remove it from the hooks when not in use and place a pair of artificial hanging plants on the hooks to placate the wife.
