#1 Try a different (lighter) set of cables.
#2 If the cables don't do it, it will probably be the video input board. It sounds like a good connection is made because you initially get a picture, but then the board or the pins move and vital connections are broken (is that MonsterCable connection too heavy?)
#3 It could also be the electronic video circuitry going out.
