6.1 is actually a misnomer for Surround EX because the rear center channel is not a discrete, separate channel, but it is matrixed from the L&R surrounds, like Pro Logic does with the front center channel. Therefore, DVD's that are DD Surround EX (like The Haunting), are still 5.1 mixes. As such, there is no need for 6.1 inputs to acommodate Surround EX or any interation after it.It would be nice to have 6.1 or 7.1 just to be more future proof, but I seriously doubt we'll get to that. People are having a hard enough time trying to get 5 speakers and a sub in their living room.
