Even a decent receiver will do the trick, as long as it has pre-outs and you have an input on your amp to receive them.
I run the Front L & R pre-outs of my Marantz into my APT pre-amp. The Marantz powers the CC and surrounds, my power amp runs the fronts. Works great and I didn't have to give up my tried and true 2 channel rig.
