Using an AVR?

Some brands' HDMI doesn't play well with Sony's. Normally you'd get video dropout as well, assuming it's via HDMI.

Maybe check on AVS to see if the "other" HDMI device involved has a known problem with Sony displays. For instance, I know Denon AVRs have this problem. If the device is a cable box or similar, I know many times the volume dropouts are in what's transmitted.
