RE: What causes "un-sync'd " audio ?

There can be a variety of reasons. You have your nationwide network shows like the evening news, prime-time tv shows and sports, and they go from NY to your local affiliate station and from there to the distibution hub of your cable provider (or straight to your antenna) and between all these variables, there is plenty of opportunity for the video and audio streams to get delayed in relation to each other.

I work in TV, and I can pretty well guarantee that every program leaves the originating control room (or live site) with the audio and video sync'ed because, well, that's what the technicians are there for, and that's why there is such a thing as "broadcast standards" (however devalued the term may be today.)

It's when it gets down the line, bounced on satellites, routed through god knows how many relays, that problems occur.
I am not going into what kind of QC is happening at the cable providers in terms of monitoring this, but I think you get my drift.....

If you have cable, I'd start by calling the cable company and alerting them to this. Mention which stations have the problem and give them the channel numbers just in case. That's the only thing I can suggest.

Good luck with it,
C.
