I recently purchased an sr-19 ex reciever. When I connected it (simple stereo set up) the right channel was distorting badly. Going to source direct which bypasses the preamp processing the sound was fine so obviously the problem is in the preamp. But then I discover that there is an attenuate button on the reciever to cut the input level in half which solves the problem as well. I am still concerned however. The DVD player that was causing the overload is a marantz as well and I have a hard time believing that it should overload the preamp without using the "attenuate" funtion. I'm concerned that the preamp is damaged and will continue to deteriorate, but then on the other hand the reciever does have the attenuate funtion that solves the problem but why should it require this "attenuate" funtion at all????? Is the reciever damaged or is this just an unusual design?? Thanks for any advice in advance
