Laserdisc players have composite video outputs and some also have S-video outputs. Component video first appeared with DVD players.

Many of today's receivers can upscale the 425 lines of laserdisc to HD resolution. Obviously some are better than others, so it's best to read up on user reports of their upscaling resolutions and the quality of the upscaling.

Another option is to convert your laserdiscs to recordable DVD (I suggest Taiyo Yuden because they use the highest quality material) with a high quality hardware/software program. This way you can watch them in any DVD/Blu-ray player and, if you have a high quality DVD/Blu-ray player, you'll be able to get the benefits of its upscaler.
