RE: Speakers OK to go in Ceiling?

For starters, if you care about resale and are tearing apart anyway, I would install for 7.1 (even though I think it's a waste). There are extremely few movies out there with 7.1 content enough that I very recently put a splitter off my processors rear output into my amps for my 4 rears. I think for resale value however having them (at least wires in the walls) would be best if it's not a ton of extra work.
As for in-walls, it will be a compromise to some degree. I'd also think placing them up closer to the screen would be best, not just in front of the couch. Try and squeeze for units that have directional tweeters, not units that will end up just pointing down at the floor.
