Is Oppo BDP-83 and upgrade over Panasonic BDP-55?

Headline says it all... I've got a Panny BDP-55 and am pretty satisfied with it, but would upgrade to the Oppo BDP-83 if it offered an improvement in audio or video over HDMI. Not really interested in SACD or DVD-A capability, just movies and as a CD transport. Thanks for your input.
