Two 5.1 Players - One 5.1 Input - Will Y Cables Work?

I have been using the Oppo DV980H Universal Player for DVD Movies and SACD and DVD-Audio playback for awhile now. I recently picked up a Pioneer Blu-Ray Player and would like to hook them both up at once. My TV has enough HDMI for the video but I have an old school stereo set-up using a separate components with a single processor with with only once set of 5.1 inputs. I do not have any way to hook up HDMI to the stereo system for audio. Could I get away with using Y Cables to feed the single 5.1 inputs from the two players. I would not be playing both at the same time but I'm still worried this could cause problems with things like impedance matching, interface, etc. etc. etc.

I don't want to toast an input or output trying this without first asking for some guidance.

No, I'm not ready to give up my Amps, Preamp, and Processor set-up yet and do an A/V Receiver. I'd probably have to drop big bucks on one of the top-of-the-line models from Denon or Pioneer to come close to the power and quality I have now and I still use this system mostly for two channel music listening with the occasional movie or multi-channel SACD/DVD-Audio disc.

Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions.
