Hello!
I purchased a BDP-93 Oppo Blu-ray player from Rapallo AV to replace my Oppo DV-983H as I will be purchasing a new Panasonic 65 inch VT30 TV as soon as they become available in New Zealand.
The DV-983 was connected to my existing 10 year old 50 inch Plasma by component cables and so I thought that it would be a simple job to hook up the new Oppo with an HD-Fury2 between the Oppo HDMI #1 outlet and thePanasonic component input, but it didn't work. Just no picture at all. Even the Oppo BDP-93 Component outlet wouldn't drive the Panasonic Plasma over the same cables that the Oppo DV-983 would and that was after the primary out put was tried in both Analogue and both HDMI outlets.
Rather strange. I tried again with much shorter component leads this time 3 sets of1.8 meter leads. The HD Fury conversion still wouldn't work from HDMI output and the only way I could get thew component to work was to connect the "Green" cable first which would establish a black and white picture and then connect the Pb Pr cables. It would then work until I turned the Oppo or Panasonic off, but when I turned them back on again it would not pass a signal untill I had gone through the above reconnection procedure.
I connected the Oppo DV-983 back in the system again and it worked straight off. So did a Marantz DV8300 and aPioneer DV410.
To add to the mystery I then connected the Oppo BDP-93 to a Samsung 40inch 1080p LCD TV. HDMI #1 to the HDMI TV input and the component to the component input on the LCD and both input worked perfectly. Even when I connected Oppo HDMI output#2 to the HDfury 2 and then to the LCD component input to test it,it worked perfectly.
I tested the above many time before writing it down to insure I did not make a mistake and tested each of the 3 component leads by hooking them one at a time into the Oppo composite output and the Panasonic Plasma composite input. Each lead was then put into it's correct component socket.
I'm at a loss to understand why the Oppo DBP-93 wouldn't drive the Panasonic in Component input when 3 other Disc players will, nor to why the Oppo wouldn't drive the HDFury 2 on the Panasonic when it will on the Samsung LED.
If any of you have any suggestions they would be appreciated. Otherwise I will just have to wait until my 65 inch VT30 arrives.
Thank you
