i'm a bit new to this video thing and am largely oldschool. i still use a laserdisc player and a sony wega 27" CRT TV!
but, i am looking to getting out of the dark ages. we have a crappy 10 year old philips DVD player that's starting to skip like crazy. and i'm debating between a 42" plasma and LED backlit LCD HDTV.
but i got to thinking that back in the day - pioneer made some SERIOUS laserdisc players like the CLD-97, X0, X9, S2 etc. just beautiful feats of manufacturing prowess. in fact, other than the mcintosh MLD-7020 (based off the CLD-97) the other boutique brands like theta, enlightened audio designs, etc. used lower end (but still good) LD players like the CLD-704 for their base to build from.
so my question is does pioneer or similar make an "all-out" blue-ray player? or are the days of copper chassis, jeweled bearing, 50 lb video players long gone?
see ya,
Robby
