(I assume you are using HDMI to get the picture to your TV??) I don't know what streaming device and other equipment you're using, or how high-speed your high-speed connection is. But on my system, programs in HD are way better than DVDs, but not quite as sharp as BluRays. I've been working my way through all of the past episodes of Breaking Bad recently. There are very occasional moments when things drop down to lo-rez, but pressing STOP and restarting the streaming where I left off will bring things back to HD quality.
My streaming device is a Samsung 6500 BluRay player, which is connected to my cable modem/router by Ethernet. The TV is a new 1080p LCD set. I haven't measured the throughput of the Ethernet connection, but WiFi is coming out of that wireless router at 15 Mbps.
