It still works perfectly, except for the remote*. I am just now looking at getting replacements on the used market. I figure a nice 5 or 7 channel amp and an Integra pre-pro might be the solution to equal the old Denon's quality and give me hdmi capability without going out of my limited budget.
But even when I get replacements, I will keep the Denon as a backup. I figure it's fully depreciated and worth far less than it should be based on its performance capability - maybe $500 at most. The old 5800 and 5803 are very good receivers and, to me, sound better than the new ones. I briefly tried one of Denon's latest flagships and was not impressed in a head-to-head comparison. I think Denon is scrimping on the amplifier section these days in order to throw in all the new features.
* BTW: If anyone knows how to fully restore the original factory settings on the Denon 5800's remote I'd be much obliged. This damned remote allowed me to delete its own setup menu by accident. And you can not, according to the manual, restore the original factory settings without accessing the setup menu. A classic catch-22. I get no response from Denon's service dept. (And no, removing the batteries and pressing the reboot button in the back does not restore the setup menu).
