27" Hitachi CRT in 1990: $990
37" RCA LCD in 2012: $298

Not to put a curse on your new stuff, but, there's a reason why stuff appears to be cheaper these days: It doesn't last as long. The "build quality" isn't there.

Your Hitachi went 22 years and is still kicking. I'll give the RCA 7 years, tops, before it's got a major issue, worthy of replacing it.

Price is one thing, cost is another.

They don't make 'em like they used to! (I can't believe I'm saying that about '90s stuff. I was saying that in 1990!)
