Zvox 555

Sooo....I used to have my television integrated into my audio system but I moved. The new place is smaller, with the living room being rectangular. Audio(music) is infinitely more important to me than video and I wasn't going to set up the system along the long wall simply to accomodate the television. So the audio's on the short wall (as expected, minus the tv, the overall sound of the system improved!), while the 50" plasma is on the long. The sound from the TV's spkrs was abysmal but I endured by hooking up a headphone amp enabling me to hear the more bombastic movies thru cans, but even that got old. I started looking into these 'soundbars' and found the majority of them unworthy, unless I went soundbar plus sub. I just wasn't feelin' it. I really wanted to keep it simple, didn't want multiple spkrs or the cables that went with them.

Enter the Zvox 555! More like a sound Base than a bar. Tv gets placed on top of it, 1 digital cable, 1 power cord and yr good to go! This unit has a woofer and I think 5 other spkrs within it. It's absolutely NOT videophile worthy in the sense that it's not 'fine' sound, it has a space enhancing sound option that Zvox incorrectly calls 'surroundsound'. To me it's more like one of those audio options I've seen in some A/V recievers that changes the sound from 'Stadium' to 'club'. It is NOT surroundsound (as I knew it wouldn't be). Lemmetellya, I'm thrilled with this unit! Full sound, bass, vocal clarity, absolutely light-years better than the stock sound coming from the TV! If yr looking to improve the sound of yr stock flatscreen without any fuss, look no further! Their website shows kids using them in dorms, even hooked up to their computers, great for bedrooms, anywhere really where you want better sound but not the fuss of recievers, cables, and speakers. Time from taking it out of the box and sitting down to listen was less than 10 minutes! It's also got aux inputs, for POD's and a few other neat sound options. I'm an ol' school/all-tube system/turntable/CD audiophiliac but I am diggin' the sound of this black box!! Just thought I'd give y'all a head's up!;)
