Net streaming of content still relies on the availability of an Internet connection. No matter where the online content comes from, the connection provider will still control the ecosystem. Cable and DSL internet providers are moving away a flat fee unlimited consumption model to a tiered and capped model, where you pay for the bandwidth used. Consumers will either pay for content from cable and satellite providers, or will pay for bandwidth from connection providers. Either way, the consumer will still pay (and probably pay more) for the same content. The dream of cord cutting and net streaming as a way out of the monthly payment hamster wheel is slowly disappearing. And that's just what the industry wants.
Best, Ross
