The article states that a 4K television must be HDCP 2.2 compliant to play upcoming 4K programming. The writer also mentioned that not all 4K televisions sold to date are HDCP 2.2 compatible.
Out of curiosity, I did some research on the new Sony XBR-70X850B. Sony's current website info about this 70" TV, along with its 65" and 55" partners, makes no mention of HDCP compatibility. I looked at Sony's promotional material and its online user publications and could find no mention of HDCP compliancy. A telephone call to Sony might yield this information, but I would avoid the purchase of any 4K television unless I saw printed confirmation of HDCP 2.2 compliancy.
It is probably the journalistic skeptic in me, but I cannot help but wonder if HDCP 2.3 and 2.4 (and onward) will be forthcoming that will create more incompatibility until standards are finally settled.
