...use the remote control for the cable box to lower volume/mute the cable box for loud commercials? I realize that won't help you with blu-ray, but for that you can always just hit the pause button on the Sony's remote.
If you just want to sit on your sofa with one remote to control the whole thing, an audio switch box isn't the answer - a new receiver and universal remote is the answer.
