VHS went from a rental model, with very high prices for purchase, to a sales model that knocked the price down significantly. DVD was an easily observed improvement over videotape. The difference, between DVD and BluRay, is much closer for the average person. It's a tougher sale and it not going to support, in the long term, a premium over standard DVD.
