Nature is analog but some people think they can digitize the world. Why digital, because in high volume it is cheap due to the large scale integration of electronic integrated circuits and you can add more functionality to a product which also increases the complexity of the product. That is why we nowadays have multi-channel audio playback. Analog audio has its limitations in functionality, but will give you in the end a better sounding product with an accurate reproduction of the acoustic instruments and voices.
