I own five LaserDisc players and about 190 LD(s). My main LD player is hooked up to my 37" Panasonic LCD TV via HQ Composite video cables. I adjust the video picture via the LCD TV picture menu for an "analog friendly" output. It took basic trial and error on my part.
My "well mastered" LD(s) are roughly equivalent to standard DVD picture
quality.
Some LD players have better picture quality than others.
There is a forum now for LaserDisc collectors at LaserDisc Database.com.
Go to the site and select the forum option under the menu. There are many knowledgeable LD collectors there who might be able to offer you more technical help.
Good luck.
