RE: Cheapest way to have Remote Control of Volume for TV into Stereo........

The problem is not audio delay from what I've seen (heard!); most modern A/V things have that adjustment (I've never had to use it since I'm HDMI here when video is involved).

What you need for TV audio into an external DAC is usually video delay, which very few AVRs/pre-pros have (or even *any* had until quite recently). i.e. the audio already lags the video, which annoys me even more (lips moving during silence). :) [Edit *]

Yeah, I should have thought of the tube pre thing, it's why I don't use *my* tube pre anymore...can you say spoiled/lazy? Also one of the (many) reasons why I got a DAC with a remote...getting up is so "when I was in my 30s"...

Yes, the broadcast TV audio lip sync into an external DAC isn't too bad compared to as it can sometimes go, but it's too much for me. I know I'm unusually sensitive to it. I also had the idea of using my "quality" DAC for TV audio, but besides the lip sync, I decided it just wasn't worth it after all, the audio quality was fine enough with the pre-pro, I just thought I could make it "better" with the stereo system, but garbage in, etc.

I am pretty sure monoprice has something to do the job, with a (crappy, but learnable) remote. I vaguely recall seeing such things when I was looking for something else, so I didn't pay huge attention, I bet Joe Murphy would know, he's pointed me to similar gadgets before. Still, the proper place to adjust the volume is at the preamp (when you use one), and that is going to be at least somewhat of an issue when you do it elsewhere, you'll have to preset the preamp volume, and may end up getting up just about as much even with a remote (for the gadget).

*Edit: this will depend on your external DAC. The one I wanted to use buffers and reclocks, thus the audio delay that I can easily notice. The same TV optical out into my regular pre-pro doesn't have a noticeable delay *most of the time*.
