How old is the TV? is one of the HDMI also an ARC (audio return channel)? This is available on new-ish TVs. Does he have a Blu-ray Player? Does it also have ARC and analog out? If yes to ALL of the above, then he can get sound from the TV to the BD Player (via HDMI)then analog to the amp. I don't know if that will apply to him, but that's what I do
Otherwise, he may be screwed. :-(
