Samsung bailed, Sony was never really in. Panasonic is still in, at least for now, other manufacturers are in their development stage.
LG is gung ho and currently selling OLED TVs. Their technology and process of making OLED panels is cheaper than Samsung's was and they have already brought the price of their 55" OLED TV down from $15,000 to $3,500 (streets even less) in a years time. Also, other companies may buy and use LG's panels in their own brands.
The problem is OLED panels are very difficult and expensive to make because manufacturers can't get the yeilds down to a level to make OLED TVs cheap and still profitable. LG is getting there.
Quantum Dot TVs may end up being the winning TV technology. The current QD technology being used in LED LCD TVs will eventually replace regular LED LCD TVs and self-illuminating QD TVs, that don't use LCDs, are a viable alternative to OLEDs. QD technology is way cheaper to produce and more efficient than OLED TVs.
Sure am glad I got another plasma while I wait this out.
