After spending half an hour on the phone with my son in Austin discussing the problem, he never told me his TV was hooked up to a cable box and the cable box had audio out rca jacks. His roommate figured it out. Sometimes I think kids today don't have any sense or patience in hooking up A/V related things. Getting that stereo hooked up right away has always been a priority my entire life. It just seemed like common sense to me. Anyway, thanks for the replies.
