sampling degradation?

I read the DVD isn't a digital image but a digitized NSCL/PAL(?) format. Thus, the interlaced signal is already present digitally. Or, do you mean something else by the interlaced signal?

Anyway, I get the picture that the progressive scan inside the DVD player is analogous to an interanl DAC on a DVD-A player going to an analog pre-amp. And, a progressive scanned TV is like an analog CDP going to a digital preamp that goes through a ADC befiore being upsampled. Am I close?
