At higher volume levels I can hear noise when there is no signal being input to the processor. I believe this is because there are no muting circuits, as there are in almost every CD player. A cost/complexity issue? Who knows. If you have to put your ear against the speaker to hear it, I think you've got an acceptable noise level.
