I purchased the 32" widescreen TV just over a year ago (12/1999). After about six weeks I complained to the retailer(comet)that it makes an excesively loud high pitch noise. I was told by the engineer that he could not hear it. I have complained many times only to be told the same thing each time. It has been taken to their service center twice. On the second occasion the guy who came to collect it ripped my $3000 sofa. They said they were going to return it to Philips, but three weeks later they ring me up to say they find no fault, that it hasen't been returned to Philips as they have no facilitys to inspect a TV set in the UK. I have spoken to philips UK and they said that all the time it is in warrenty it is the retailers responsibility. When the warrenty expired I contacted Philips UK again and they said that it is no longer in warrenty so It would be difficult to do anything about it. I have faxed Philips UK twice and had no reply. It seems to me that I paid alot of money for this set but I can't tolerate watching it as it is so noisy. Philips don't care at all. I would not recommend any philips products after this experience. Are all these things an unfortunate coincidence or is this normal conduct from a large company like Philips? They think that I should pay a Philips authorised engineer $150 to do a report, which they will only cosider paying back if the product is found to be unsatisfactory. There is no specification as to how loud that noise can be, so manufactures like philips must use duff components that make loads of noise instead of using better ones that may cost a bit more money but are quite. Thats my guess anyway. I have two other friends with 32" widescreen TVs and theirs are silent.
