I auditioned the Denon 5800, Pioneer Elite (can't recall the mod#) and Onkyo TS989. The Pioneer was dull and lifeless, the Onkyo and Denon much better with the Denon seemingly a smoother high end while the Onkyo beter balanced and tighter in the low end. I could have lived with either, but choose the Onkyo mainly because of the true "future-proof" architecture.
