Sony Virtual 6.1 modes....any good ?

How does the Sony Virtual 6.1 surround mode compare with the real thing...ie a "hard" 6.1 mode ?
I'm posting here because Asylum members appear to be far more objective than the one-eyed doofii populating the Sony user forums.
Does anyone really believe the Sony TA-E9000ES with the latest upgrades is a giant killer processor ?
I own one of these and no way does it sound better than seriously good processors like the Classes or Lexicons.
