I have seen, side-by-side, the Sony KV36XBR400, the Panasonic Tau CT-34WX50, and Loewe Aconda and I would rate them, as far as picture quality, Aconda first, Panasonic Second, and Sony last. Neither the Sony nor Panasonic have a built-in line-doubler like the Aconda and therefore the Aconda gives a smoother more life-like looking image. In other words, watching a DVD on either the Sony or Panasonic is like watching video whereas with the Aconda it is like you are present at the time the film is being shot. The Aconda also includes a motion detection circuitry. Gone In 60 Seconds is a good example to show off how well motion is handled with on the Aconda.

The Panasonic has the advantage over the Aconda in terms of the size of the 16:9 and 4:3 video image. The Sony has the adavtage over both the Aconda and Panasonic for 4:3 video image but the other two more then make up for that when in 16:9 mode.

One thing I really like about the Aconda is the panorama mode which works great for viewing NTSC 4:3 broadcasts. It does cut a slight bit off the top and bottom but it is not that noticeable. I find that the cinema mode, on the Aconda, is great for watching LD movies.
