I DID look at the Sony again this week and I was VERY impressed with it when viewing a HDTV 1080i signal. It looked much better than the Toshiba, Samsung, and RCA ( the other HDTV ready sets they had on display for comparison ). On the regular input the line-doubler on the Sony seemed to be much 'nicer' with fewer artifacts at the expense of maybe being a little bit more soft-focus than the other models; the RCA didn't have a doubler at all so I quickly eliminated it from my list of possibilities. I was REALLY close to purchasing the Sony until I hung around for a while and watched the 1080i picture for quite sometime...then I noticed that EVERY time a black transition or flash of light came on the screen in the picture the Sony would lose the HDTV signal and the green menu display would appear on the screen for a short time. I also noticed some horizontal lines in the top right corner of the screen. I would have assumed it was just a problem with that one display set if it wasn't for the fact BOTH problems appeared on another HDTV ready Sony ( this one was a 60" instead ) and they would lose the signal at the same time, everytime. Out of all the TV's in the store the Sony's were the only ones with the problems I described. Unless I can find out that Sony has fixed the HDTV signal loss problem I'm elimintating them from my 'short-list' of TV's to purchase.
