I gave up that search as many others have and got a 2 channel pre-amp that I have hooked up to an inexpensive HT pre-amp via the processor loop. I feel it gives me the best of both worlds. IMO, HT is not very demanding and I'm not into multi-channel music.
Something like a Sherwood or Sony HT pre-amp can be had for $800-1,200. Add a used Audible Illusions Mod 3A, BAT VK-3i, VTL TL2.5 or whatever and you'll have a much more musical system for under $3K.
