Denon 1801 -V- 1601

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Denon 1801 and the 1601, as I am about to buy one of these machines soon. Can you add a pre-amp with the 1801? and if so, what difference will this make? In what areas might the 1801 sound better?

My money will just about stretch to a 1801, so any suggestion of going up the Denon are out the window.
