I am very familiar with the br-s500u/s8oou/622u/822u/525udnr/and their x cousins / Digital-s decks br-d750/br-d85u/uns/br-d92u. I have recommended these products to broadcasters, production company's, educational/governmental organizations and I have used these commercial VCR's in every production situation imaginable. The transports are tough and reliable, the vcr's can do self diagnostics, like, will warn if a motor is bad etc. I have seen some old units (10 years or more) still working in some locations, like the br3200u's in our dub rack. However, the semi-pro "plastic models" can perform well, but include features that make them less usefull for professional purposes. No front panel controls on some, all remote & menu driven. Auto signal adjustment, not really a good idea since a video may have it's own artistic quality. Too many on screen displays that you have to fumble to turn off. And annoying defaults if power is lost. Yes, the semi-pro models have JVC legacy, but if it were me. Pick a real pro deck, the ones in metal cases. Just my opinion.
