I guess I don't understand the desire to not use the audio system. Why deprive yourself?

With a DVD player, I guess you could send the TV a video signal and an audio signal into one input. Then, IF your DVD player has another set of audio outputs (could be digital if you had a digital processor or analog for an analog processor), you could send audio to the audio system also. Both of my DVD player's have two sets of analog outs so they do exist. You would turn the volume down or turn the speakers off via a menu on the TV when using the audio system. This would work but it is not something that I would bother with.
