I haven't had enough time with it to write a full review, but my wife and I bought one this weekend and give it VERY high marks, especially on well mastered widescreen material. The SONY player itself looks pretty cheap construction-wise, but performance-wise it's first class all the way! My only criticism thus far is that on 16:9 sets, such as the RCA F38310 HDTV we own, standard 4:3 frame material can't be displayed in progressive (480P) without it being stretched to fit the wider screen. Switching to interlace mode (480I) the display allows sidebars to fit the proper aspect ratio, but it would be nice to view older movies on DVD in progressive with the native aspect ratios intact. BTW, viewing 4:3 aspect ratio material in 480P should be just fine on conventional 4:3 HD & HD-ready digital sets.At any rate, the SONY DVP NS700P is an excellent player which may be purchased for from $50 to $100 less than it's $349 msrp from one of the numerous internet vendors on the right day. FWIW, we ended up purchasing ours from Best Buy as part of a Labor Day weekend special which has this model going for just over $280. One last point: If you have a digital set that can accept progressive scan input (480P or better), you should give serious consideration to a progressive scan DVD player (i.e. preferably with decent 2:3 inverse telecine or "pull-down" such as this SONY). You will, in all liklihood, see a BIG jump in picture quality.
